1950年，出演《The Milkman》。1952年出演《怀春乳燕》。1961年，出演《江湖浪子》，翌年因此片获得奥斯卡最佳女演员奖和英国电影学院奖最佳外国女演员奖提名。1976年出演《魔女嘉莉》，并于第二年凭借该片获得奥斯卡最佳女配角奖。1987年，因出演《悲怜上帝的女儿》提名奥斯卡最佳女配角。
前夫是Joe Morgenstern (21 January 1962 - 1981），二人育有一个孩子。
